Anyone for a $100+ Burger?
A Truly Gourmet Burger
Well, I read this article from Lifestyle (23 April 2006) about this 101 burger from Uberburger that cost $101 itself. Yup, $101, for a burger without any sides and drinks. Also, there's no decimal points as well. No typo error, I have to emphasise. WOW... I wonder if anyway is willing to spend that much for the burger.
Anyway, I'll type out what it is written from Lifestyle about this burger, for those who do not have today's newspaper (The Sunday Times) and is interested about the burger.
Burger Bun
Not just your normal sesame seed bun, this is stuffed with black truffle shavings. Uberburger gets its truffles, which are an edible and decadently expensive fungi, for about $1800 per kg (this bun must be one of the most expensive bun).
Champagne Truffle Sauce
This designer dressing, which thie staff dispense generously, lends fragrance to the burger's overall taste.
Burger Patty
You geta hefty 180g of wagyu beef in a sirloin cut, which is the tastiest part of the cow. The beef is minced tohether with 25 to 30g of melt-in-your-mouth foie gras (goose liver).
What Lifestyle Said About this Burger
The meat patty is very juicy, thanks to the foie gras that has been mashed and mixed in it. But you do not get the aroma of pan-fried goose liver. The meat is covered with truffle cream, which has a very strong aroma. More subtle are the bits of truffle that have been baked into the home-made bun.
No wonder why the burger can cost $101. Anyway, Lifestyle gave this burger a 4 stars rating, out of the possible 5 stars for the taste. It's considered good, but still lose out to One-Ninety Wagyu Burger ($59) and Iggy's Iggy's Burger (part of a set lunch that starts from $35 for 2 courses).
Hmm... $101 for just a burger? With that money, I could have given 3 people for a treat at Jack's Place, Crystal Jade and soup Restaurant, 4 people for a treat at Fish & Co., 5 people for a treat at Swensen's, Ajisen Ramen and Secret Recipe, and so on. That money is also good enough for about one week's (7 days) meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), or maybe about 10 days lunch and dinner. I can also use the money to watch about 14 to 15 weekdays movies, or about 10 to 11 weekends movies.
Anyway, are there anyone willing to try this burger? If you are going to do so, hope that you can share with us the experience of eating this burger. :P
